Report on the AGM of The Parents' Council - October 5th 2011

The Parents Council has been involved in a range of various activities during the last school year 2010/2011 such as:

  • Fund raising for the Parents Council through a bag-pack and a table quiz.

  • Assisting and joining a committee to improve the girls’ uniform trousers.

  • Organising the book scheme which makes second-hand books available to some students.

  • Establishing a budget sub-committee to formulate budget policy for the current school year. This was formally adopted by the Parents Council.

  • Organising the second chance school uniform scheme which allows students to purchase good quality uniforms at a reasonable price.

  • Liaising with the Student Council.

  • Supporting Home School Liaison Committee and Health Promotion Week.

  • Helping to organise a Past Pupils Union.

  • Providing a Positive Psychology Course for parents.

  • Supporting public speaking sessions for 1st and 2nd year students.

  • Continuing to implement the Parents Council Plan.

We have also had some parents assisting with school outings and with matches as well as representatives from the parents’ council attending Catholic School Parent Association (CSPA) meetings. Assistance was also provided to the 6th year students in organising their Debs event.

The school embarked on a major event to mark the 10 year anniversary of Mercy Mounthawk. A garden fete was organised and held on Sunday September 25th. This event was a joint effort between the school management, teachers, students and parents’ council and required detailed collaboration and planning between all groups. The fete was a tremendous success and thanks are due to all concerned in successfully marking this special day.

Mr. John O’Roarke (Principal) presented a Board of Management report to the meeting on the operational management of the school.

The past year has been a very busy and successful one for the parents’ council and thanks are expressed to all members who have made these activities and events possible. We look forward to new members joining us this year and wish those parents’ whose children have completed their time in Mercy Mounthawk the best for the future and thank them for their time with us.
