The 2015 – 2018 School Plan
As with any school, Mercy Mounthawk is developing constantly in order to better address the needs of the 1,200 students who attend the school. Improvement and development are driven by the the self-evaluation from which the 3 year schools plans are formulated. 2015 sees the establishment of a new Board of Management for the next three years and they are developing the new 3 year plan. This plan will have a few main themes: the development of a self-evaluation process in the school, the conclusion of 3 SIPs (school improvement plans in Literacy, Numeracy and Homework, the development of a policy on wellbeing. -
Self Evaluation
As you will have seen elsewhere on the site, we received a WSE evaluation report in the last year. Moving forward, the Department of Education is promoting a model of school planning that focuses on self-evaluation. The Department will be producing guidelines in the near future on their own web site http://schoolself-evaluation.ie/

New Building -The Extension
There is always the need to improve the facilities available to students in any school and equally here in Mounthawk. Our young people deserve the best we can afford to give to them during their formative years. The original building was built for 1,000 students, but since the very first days of the amalgamation, we have had closer to 1,200 students and the building was and is not big enough. The Department of Education provided a block of prefabs at teh time to facilitate the numbers, and it is now time to say good bye to them…..

Our students deserve the best we can give to them in facilities for their education and it is the plan of the Board to work to achieve that. We have developed plans and have received planning permission for a considerable extension to the current building. The extension is designed to fit in seamlessly with the existing building. It will have the same curved roof and similar profile from the street.
It will have 6 classrooms to replace the prefabs and more importantly an auditorium which can double as an extension to the current canteen facility in order to accommodate the student population for lunch.
