TRANSITION YEAR FASHION SHOW
Michelle Culloty
The annual Transition Year fashion show is considered to be a big highlight
in Transition Year so we had to make sure it was a great night! We started
rehearsing and modelling in October. Up to 21st November, rehearsals
were held at lunches hour. We were taught how to pose and were given
ideas for routines. In order to organise the show, it was vital that we had a
committee dedicated to the task.
Everybody had plenty of work to do. The treasurers had to organise
sponsors for the show; the secretaries had to write letters to the
parents of transition year students and to shops and sponsors; the
publicity officers had to contact the newspapers and sell tickets; the
charity liaison officers had to research the charities to which we would
donate the money (the Balloonagh Autism Unit and the Mercy
Mounthawk Kenya Project); the artistic directors had to design the
billboard and the catwalk and the chairpersons had to ensure
everything was running smoothly and visit the sponsoring shops. We
decided to have the theme "Rumble in the Jungle" for the fashion show
as money was being donated to the Mounthawk Kenya Project.
Students had butterflies in their stomach and were both excited and
nervous as they awaited their turn to model. The dancers were ecstatic after
their performance. Thanks to Joanne 0’Connor for her brilliant choreography!
The routines for this half were amusing, with interesting props such as roses.
A big thank you to Gerry 0’Riordan for making the DVD for us.
Also thanks to Ms. Quane and Ms. Fitzgearld for their help in organising
the show and to last year’s fourth years Aisling Murphy, Sinéad Boyle,
Stephanie Horgan and Niamh Fitzgearald for their help in teaching us
how to model. Every student has memories from the Fashion Show that
will last forever and it was truly an opportunity of a lifetime. |
